Singapore launches sustainability hub to help SMEs go green by 2030

Enterprise Singapore (EnterpriseSG) has launched the SME Sustainability Hub. A new government-backed website that provides small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with direct access to resources and support to kickstart or advance their sustainability efforts.

The platform serves as a one-stop digital hub, offering streamlined access to government programmes, subsidies, training courses, carbon management solutions and practical guidance on complying with environmental regulations. Multiple government agencies support the initiative, including the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment and PUB.

The move comes amid growing interest from SMEs in adopting green practices, but many businesses have cited difficulties in navigating the complex landscape of sustainability information and requirements.

“The SME Sustainability Hub is a whole-of-government effort that enables local enterprises to easily access sustainability-related information and accelerate their green transformation,” said Geoffrey Yeo, assistant managing director for capabilities, product and policy at EnterpriseSG.

The website features an AI-powered e-adviser to recommend relevant programmes, including the Productivity Solutions Grant (PSG) for pre-approved carbon management solutions. These solutions are aimed at helping SMEs build their carbon accounting capabilities and receive tailored advice on calculating Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, such as direct emissions from operations or energy use.

For SMEs in their sustainability journey, PSG support extends to Scope 3 emissions, including indirect emissions from supply chains, business travel and product usage. This allows more advanced firms to set decarbonisation targets and prepare for sustainability disclosures and supply chain requirements, critical for competing in global markets.

The Hub also provides case studies of successful SME initiatives, regulatory updates and curated topics on waste management and water efficiency, offering companies a roadmap for reducing their environmental footprint.

“Sustainability is crucial to staying competitive,” said Jean Goh, managing director of XCEL Industrial Supplies. “But for SMEs, the volume of information can be overwhelming. This Hub helps cut through the noise and points us to the right tools and grants.”

With sustainability increasingly tied to access to global markets and investor confidence, the new SME Sustainability Hub is expected to become a key resource for foreign-owned SMEs operating in Singapore, especially those looking to meet ESG requirements, lower operational costs and align with the city-state’s national Green Plan 2030.
