Singapore and Ethiopia to enhance bilateral cooperation and explore new opportunities

Singapore and Ethiopia are set to deepen their collaboration by exploring new avenues in transport, connectivity, digitalisation and capacity-building, announced Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.

During an official dinner on Wednesday, held in honour of Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister Wong expressed the commitment of both nations to strengthening their bilateral ties.

The leaders have agreed to initiate bilateral consultations between their foreign ministries. These consultations will focus on identifying and developing new areas of cooperation, particularly in transport, connectivity, digitalisation and capacity-building.

“I am pleased that both countries are eager and determined to enhance our relationship,” Wong said, highlighting that Singaporean companies are already showing interest in expanding into Ethiopia’s agriculture, logistics and aircraft maintenance sectors.

He also emphasized the potential for Singapore and Ethiopia, as regional hubs, to act as gateways, fostering stronger links between Southeast Asia and Africa.
