Singapore to launch Overseas Markets Immersion Programme for business expansion training

Singapore will offer businesses seeking international expansion the chance to send their employees for training.

The program, developed by Workforce Singapore (WSG), called the Overseas Markets Immersion Programme, will fund Singaporean companies and allow employees with little or no experience to go on overseas assignments. They will be able to train for global or regional positions that offer good prospects.

On Monday, March 4, Minister for Manpower Tan See Leng stated that mid-level employees or those with zero experience would gain from training and practical experience in technology, business development “or beyond.”

He also noted that a strong globally oriented team will help contribute to the expansion of enterprises in Singapore and their successful competition in foreign markets.

“Business leaders have consistently told me that overseas experience is valuable for career progression, in particular, for corporate leadership positions. We will do more to help,” Tan said.

According to Tan, such a program would complement leadership development programs such as the Ministry of Trade and Industry’s Global Business Leaders Program (GLBP), which aims to send its Singaporean employees with leadership potential on overseas assignments.
