OpenAI to open the first Singapore office

OpenAI, the parent company of ChatGPT, will open its first office in Singapore by the end of 2024. This expansion follows the launch of its Tokyo office earlier this year and is part of the company’s broader push into the Asia-Pacific region.

The new Singapore office will serve as a hub to strengthen OpenAI’s relationships with governments, businesses and partners across the region. OpenAI is also partnering with a state initiative AI Singapore to enhance artificial intelligence (AI) tools that reflect Southeast Asia’s diverse languages and cultures.

With the growing demand for AI technologies in Asia, Singapore has become a solid location for companies like OpenAI to expand their operations. The city-state has already established itself as a major technology and AI leader in the region. Several global tech companies, including Google and Meta, have made Singapore their base for Asian operations.

OpenAI’s CEO has highlighted Singapore’s thriving AI ecosystem and the company’s enthusiasm for partnering with the government. The company plans to hire between five to ten local employees initially, focusing on roles in sales, security and technical solutions.

This expansion is part of OpenAI’s global growth, which has been fueled by billions of dollars in funding and recent partnerships. With a valuation of $157 billion, the company continues to focus on developing cutting-edge AI products for markets worldwide, with Singapore playing a key role in its Asia-Pacific strategy.
