Singapore leads Southeast Asia in female-led startups, garnering global recognition
Singapore leads in female-led startups in Southeast Asia, achieving significant achievements both regionally and globally.
According to a recent report by Traxcn, there are more than 1,700 women-led startups in Southeast Asia, with about $4 billion in total funding to date.
The report found that Singapore ranks 7th worldwide for funding raised by women-led startups.
Traxcn also highlighted the country’s success in continually attracting investment capital for women-led businesses. This approach is a testament to the vibrant and dynamic entrepreneurial ecosystem created in the country.
There are 936 women-owned startups in the country, which significantly exceeds the number of such startups in neighboring countries. Jakarta leads with 173 startups, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 107, Bangkok with 67 and Metro Manila with 62.
The high number of startups demonstrates Singapore as a robust and fertile landscape for innovation and entrepreneurship, where female founders play an active role in enriching the dynamic startup ecosystem.
Statistics show that Singapore leads the total amount of funding from female startups in Southeast Asia. Throughout 380 rounds, women-owned startups have raised US$3 billion through successful fundraising.
Other countries in Southeast Asia are not far behind Singapore. Jakarta, for example, received US$935.9 million in funding across 106 rounds. Cyberjaya excelled with US$86.3 million raised over 10 rounds.
This rise in female-led startups indicates a broad trend towards gender diversity and inclusion in the startup ecosystem in Southeast Asia and Singapore in particular.
Singapore’s leadership provides great hope for the future of women-owned startups in Southeast Asia, which are poised to achieve even greater success in innovation, investment and impact on the global stage.
